The Steps to Fellowship

Step 1:
Complete Application

To apply to the ERF Fellowship Program, candidates must complete and return:

  • a completed application (click here to download)
  • a complete copy of your Curriculum Vitae
  • any reprints of your published material
  • three letters of recommendation (one must be from your Chief)
  • a passport size photograph

Send all of this information to the Ear Research Foundation, 1901 Floyd Street, Sarasota, FL 34239, Attention Christina Defrancisco.

Step 2:
Schedule Your Interviews

Upon receipt of the completed application and review, candidates may be notified for a virtual interview and then an on-site interview in Sarasota.

Virtual Interview:

  • Tuesday afternoons at 5:15pm
  • Includes a presentation

Onsite Interview:

  • These usually take place on Monday and Tuesday
  • Candidates should plan to spend at least two days on site

Step 3:
Complete Required Certifications

The fellowship is usually awarded a minimum of one year in advance, which allows time to obtain the necessary certifications:

  • Apply for Florida medical license and send application for surgical privileges to: Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Cape Surgery Center, and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
  • Obtain certification to use the various lasers for surgery
  • Sign a restrictive covenant

If it is not possible for you to obtain the above-mentioned licensure, the Foundation does arrange unsalaried research fellowships. If this is the case, please note your request to do so in your cover letter.
